ANZBL Season 3 Round 4 Game 1
Auckland Archers Vs Canberra Centurions

The penultimate round opened with the Centurions on the defence of their Murovanka map pick. Archers moved two tanks towards the 1 flag from E3, an unusual direction to come from. They had some defensive positions set up around F4 and through the town. Archers seemed to just stand still. The Centurions moved forward and managed to get some damage onto the Archers. With no response the Archers hesitancy cost them the match. On the return leg the Centurions pushed into the 1 flag cap quickly. With two tanks capturing, the other three Centurion tanks moved together to isolate Centurion’s mapaso. Centurions stuck back by eliminating Taney_Local. They continued to pick their targets well and went up 2-0.

The Archers started the attack of their map pick Ghost Town by grouping up at G4 and moved onto the 2 flag. They tried to keep ramekat3 hidden from the reset shots and succeed for a while, but eventually Centurions rotated and farmed up the Archers on cap. Centurions took their defensive match. The return leg saw Centurions move south and take control of the 1 flag. Archers were able to focus on Centurion’s toddy339 and eliminate him, but the focus broke down. They eventually recovered to eliminate soltarian but Centurions recovered to win Ghost Town.

The Canberra Centurions defeat the Auckland Archers 4-0.

ANZBL Season 3 Round 4 Game 3
Bundaberg Badgers Vs Hawthorn Hellcats

Continuing on to Ghost Town, this time as the Hellcats’ map pick, the Badgers started on defence. The Hellcats moved to the south of the town and jumped onto the 2 flag. They set up well to prevent the Badgers’ tanks from getting easy reset shots. Hellcat’s G4tekeep3r over-committed onto the Badger’s Fury. He was collapsed upon but managed to escape major damage for a while. It didn’t last forever as chased not the arms of BadBoiBubbles. Hellcat’s buff-hamster had an unlucky disconnect. He managed to reconnect, but it was too late. Badgers take the win. The Hellcats moved to defence on the return leg. The Badgers moved three tanks onto the 1 flag and started the capture. Hellcat’s Rippon committed to get to the tanks on cap but without support he went down. It was easy for the Badgers to mop up the other tanks and go up 2-0.

The action moved to the Badger’s map choice of Cliff. The Badgers started the match with one of their players disconnecting, making it an effective 4v5. It stalled the Hellcats’ attack as the Badgers didn’t do what they expected them to do. The Hellcats moved three tanks towards the 2 flag, but ran into a group of Badgers. Badgers took 4 tanks without losing any and were able to remove the last opponent without loss. Unfortunately due to technical difficulties the last match couldn’t be broadcast but the Badgers also won that match.

The Bundaberg Badgers defeat the Hawthorn Hellcats 4-0.

ANZBL Season 3 Round 4 Game 3
Cairns Comets Vs Wollongong Wolverines

The last match of the night was between the Comets and the Wolverines, both undefeated. Starting on attack of their map pick Mines, the Wolverines ran into the Comets on the way up the hill and bled a lot of HP. A 4v4 brawl resulted on the top of the hill. The Comets’ focus fire proved superior taking their defence. The return leg saw the Wolverines spread their defence along the K line. The Comets took control of the hill and moved toward the 2 flag. The Comets rotated to the 1 flag and applied cap pressure. The Wolverines pushed onto one of the Comets’ tanks and got the reset. The match ended up in a 3v3. The Wolverines won some individual battles and brought the series to 1-1.

Heading back to Ghost Town as the Comets’ map pick, the Wolverines left a tank at the southern end of the town and moved the rest to the northern end. The Wolverines isolated Comet’s AthrunZulla and eliminated him and moved onto Flaming. The Comets struct back removing Mendicant_Bias. With haha_yes, the Wolverines were in the driver’s seat though and ended up taking their attacking win. On the return leg the comets moved to the 2 flag from the south of the town. With three tanks on the cap the pressure was on the Wolverines to response. They got some reset shots in and the Comets chose to push their three capping tanks onto two of the Wolverines. The Comets’ focus fire was superior though, removing two of their opponents. An aggressive play by the Comets sends us to our first tie breaker of ANZBL Season 3.

The tie breaker on Tundra opened with the Wolverines on defence. The Comets positioned for the 1 flag. The Comets grouped up and pushed three tanks into a secure position at A3. They started applying cap pressure as the Wolverines rotated. The Wolverines ran into a Comets trap and forces a 4v3 battle with Wolverines’ tanks reloading. The Comets showed the amazing focus fire that they are becoming known for and won them the tie breaker.

The Cairns Comets defeat the Wollongong Wolverines 3-2.

Next Week

It feels like the ANZBL only just started but it moves to its last regular season matches next week. My pick for match of the round goes to the first game between the Wolverines and the Badgers. Wolverines have been good all season but the Badgers are performing well. The Comets will try to go through the season undefeated against the Centurions while the Archers and the Hellcats will battle it out for pride.
