Winning a State Championship guarantees players a spot in the Australia Catan National Championship on August 6, but it isn’t the only way to enter. Players can register for four rounds of competition at the Eastlake Football Club in Canberra with the top 12 players joining the State Champions in the National Top 16. The winner will be crowned Australia’s Catan Champion and receive a trip to Malta for the 2022 World Championships, joining more than 60 participants from around 40 countries.
It’s been a long four years since the last Catan World Championship. The biennial event was due to take place in November 2020 but global health concerns due to COVID-19 forced it to be postponed. Normally a maximum of two players per country can participate in the tournament, but countries that have been able to hold national competitions since the rescheduling of the World Championship will be able to send additional players.
